About the Midwife
Dina Bowers is a Licensed Direct Entry Midwife practicing in the state of Colorado. Starting in 2010, she received her training at the Northern New Mexico Birth Center in Taos, New Mexico, and at Better Birth in Salt Lake City, Utah; both freestanding birth centers committed to clinical excellence. She lives at home with her husband and children and multiple free range chickens.
"For me, my first pregnancy felt like a passage into the life of women. Before that point, I hadn't given much thought to this unique world. I spent my second trimester in South East and Central Asia where I came across many variations in culture, climate, and lifestyles- not to mention healthcare. It was at that point that I realized regardless the circumstance or geography, women carry a common thread centered in strength and resilience. As a midwife, I carry this perception with me. I love to watch the lives of families unfold as they bring new life into the world. Thank you to all who share with me this remarkable experience!"
Philosophy of Care
The Midwives Model of Care is based on the fact that pregnancy and birth are normal life processes. The Midwives Model of Care includes:
- Monitoring the physical, psychological, and social well-being of the mother throughout the childbearing cycle
- Providing the mother with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support
- Minimizing technological interventions
- Identifying and referring women who require obstetrical attention
The application of this women-centered model of care has been proven to reduce the incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesarean section.
